What did we get ourselves into?

We have officially registered for a 5k race. I sent the registrations forms and money in the mail today and there is no going back. I am so thankful that I don't have to go through this alone. JKuhl has been training with me for a 5k since day one. I am feeling very anxious about the race, but also very excited. I think we can do this! We are already running 2 1/2 miles straight and have 2 weeks to go.

Reasons why I am anxious:
1) What if I can't run the entire thing? We have been working so hard and my goal is to run it and not walk it. Plus I have announced the race over cyberspace so now everyone in cyberspace knows about the race.
2) I hate running in the morning. Both JKuhl and I find it more difficult to breathe when we run in the morning and feel yucky after the run. We usually run in the evenings between 6:30 to 8:00 at night. We notice a huge difference in our endurance. I am not sure if we are the only people that feel this way.
3) I haven't found good running shoes yet. I have not used my old running shoes throughout the entire training because when I run in them my knee hurts. I have been running in sketchers, which is NOT good for me at all, but my knee doesn't hurt when I run in them. I plan on looking hardcore this weekend for a good pair of shoes.

Reasons why I am excited:
1) I might actually be able to do this! I have a difficult time following through with long-term goals that have anything to do with exercise or eating healthy. I will have completed a nine week program and can evaluate my performance as successful by completing the run.
2) The location of the race is amazing!!! We are running in San Leandro and the paved path is along the water shore. The views should be breathtaking and make this experience even better. Click on this link to view the route.
3) I go away from the race with a shirt and a medal. I know it sounds a little ridiculous but completing a 5k race is a huge thing for me. I get to walk away with proof that I did it.

The race is on Saturday, February 20th... only two more weeks left to train.

  2. Looks like a really beautiful place to run! Perhaps that will take your mind off your breathing! Of course, I will need a pic of you in your T with your medal for the family scrapbook. Mama says get those shoes quickly so they can be properly broken in before Feb. 20th! I know you can make it...you've done so well with your training! Good luck to you and JKuhl!
