Pumpkin Cupcakes

It is November 8th and I am finally blogging the Halloween cupcakes that I made for our October staff meeting at work. I got this cute idea from Elle Bee when she made these cute pumpkin cupcakes for her twins' birthday party. I used boxed carrot cake for the actual cupcakes and then decorated the top of the cupcakes so that they resembled pumpkins.

First you mix a normal can of frosting with Winton's tint. You can find the dye at Michaels and it comes with a fun assortment of colors that you can use for future designs. Follow the directions on the dye box and add a little at a time until the frosting turns into the orange color of a pumpkin.

Now it is time to set up our stations:

Station 1: Orange sugar (also found at Michaels)

Station 2: Green sour straws cut into smaller pieces for the stem

Station 3: Green laffy taffy (cut and rolled into little squiggles)

Create an assembly line.

First frost your cupcakes. Then dip your cupcake upside down in the bowl with orange sugar. Use a toothpick to create the ridges on top of the pumpkin.

You will then pipe frosting on the lines you just created with the toothpick. You can use a regular sandwich bag by filling it with frosting, sealing the end, and cutting a small hole in one of the corners.

Finally, add one sour straw stem and one laffy taffy leaf. Not only do the cupcakes look adorable, but they are really yummy.

Bon Appetit!
